8 Father’s Day Innovations - Rock his be-slippered world

Dads are hard to buy for! Anything they really want they have probably already bought for themselves, and the usual staples of cardigans, socks and Black and Decker guffins hardly set the world on fire. So I think its time to mix father’s day up. Let’s not focus on Dad as he is today, instead lets mine his past for things he used to love but has probably forgotten about. Below are 8 father’s day time capsule innovations that may just put a smile on the old man’s mug.
- Construct a timeline of his life. Juxtapose key events in his life with momentous current events of the day. Some (free) software to do this can be found here.
- Find out what his favourite Album was when he was 18, then track it down and buy it for him. If he still has a hoary old record player see if you can find the vinyl at music stack.
- Similarly, what movies did he love at the cinema back in the days when movie stars smoked 20 a day and John Wayne had enough masculinity in his little finger to flatten the Sly’s and the Arnie’s of today. Find one and help him feel young again.
- Go back even further. What toy did he always want but never managed to get his grubby mitts on. Or, what toy did he own and love above all others. You can track it down here and both of you can get down on the floor and play with it again, as if for the first time.
- Back to his teens and early twenties. Help him relive his fashion disasters of yesteryear. The (truly awful) webpage here will help you identify such fashion horrors and gives a link to their amazon store for purchases.
- Risk the Wrath of Mum by buying him a poster of his favourite old school pin up.
- Alternatively, revisit some of his old stomping grounds and take your own pictures and put them into an album for him. Ask him to tell you stories about what he remembers about each location.
- Finally, get hold of an old picture of him in his prime and have it blown up to poster size. Anything that makes him look like a matinée idol will be sure to go down well
Happy Father’s Day to all you Dads out there!
